Previewing a book dramatically improves reading comprehension, so Book 1 in each set is a wordless picture book which introduces the story through colorful illustrations. Repetition aids brain development, so the story is retold in Books 2-10 with an ever-expanding vocabulary. By repeating words and gradually adding new ones, Budding Reader eBooks help new readers (even reluctant ones) experience success from the very start.
In total, the Budding Reader eBook series introduces more than 60 simple words including dozens of common sight words. Learning is reinforced with free companion writing worksheets (available at buddingreader.com) which provide a multisensory experience and enable children to practice both reading and writing. A free parent guide with tips for working with new readers is also available on the website.
The first set in the series, Cat and Rat, introduces the short “a” vowel sound and is designed to be a child’s very first reader. The book presents a sight word approach to reading. The entire ten book set contains two characters, a cat and a rat. The first book features only three words. As the books progress one new word is added, until when one reaches the last book eleven words are introduced. The child reinforces the learned word as she progresses. By the time the reader reaches the last book, the reader is able to read simple sentences in both declarative and interrogative form.This is an easy step by step way for a parent to teach and a child to gain confidence and self esteem as she practices reading skills. The only problem with this approach is that it must be paralleled in the school system. There are many school districts who don't follow this approach to learning how to read..I would recommend this system to home school parents and parents or preschool teachers who want to encourage literacy at an early age.

This is actually multiple books in one. It starts off with pictures only, no words. Then the entire book repeats itself using one word per page. Then two, then three, etc. I'm sure there's some educational logic to this but it's certainly not my favorite thing to read.
I bought this for my daughter to see how she likes reading on my kindle and she loved this book. I loved the fact that it's a build on book. She's in kindergarten and just learning to read so starting with one word and building until you have a full story gave her a boost in confidence. I plan to buy more when she receives her own kindle for her birthday!!!
My daughter is in kindergarten and they have been working hard on site words. It felt a little repetitive and she was getting a little bored but we did read them all in a row. She was very proud as was I when she finished and read all of them with very little help. )
These books were great. My not quite five year old grandson read the entire set in one sitting with me on the iPad. The set goes from no words on the page, just pictures, on the first book, then adds a new word or two each book. He was so excited to be reading a "real book" all by himself. I have searched for books that very very beginning readers can read since his mom was his age with very limited success. This series is great and I look forward to more in the series.

Cat and Rat Budding Reader Book Set 1 (Ten Books)
I love how they use the same illustrations, starting with no words to tell the story, and then telling it again and again, adding a simple word or two to the progression each time. This would be extremely helpful week by week for a child struggling with reading.
This was excellent. It is a self contained series of 10 books. The pictures are the same in each book but each book adds a new word to read. So you starts with pictures and you end reading ten or eleven words, each book asking a word or two. My beginning reader was so excited when she finished and had read the whole thing. Thank you!!!
I loved this book and it’s perfect for any child learning to read. It’s ten books in one and it starts with a series of illustration. Then with each new book (or section) it introduces the reader to a new word so by the end of reading book ten, the reader will have learned ten new words.
